Description of Units
 

  • Research Methodology (EDFD 400)

This unit aims to provide students with an understanding of different research designs and methodologies in the education sector. Students will become familiar with scientific methods, ethical considerations in research, measurement, research concepts, and research methodologies. They will have the opportunity to develop relevant knowledge and skills necessary for professional selection and evaluation of research design and methods, as well as how to gather data to answer specific research questions.

  • Mathematics Education 4 (EDMA 400)

This study unit is designed for teachers who aspire to become specialists in mathematics education for grades 1 through 3 of Basic Education. It is aimed at enhancing their knowledge of mathematics discipline and pedagogy in addressing challenging areas of learning (and teaching) content perspectives from grades 1 through 3. The integration of theory, research, and practice will be exemplified through robust connections with four years of professional experience placement.

  • Natural Science Education (EDST 400)

This study unit is conducted for students who aspire to become specialized science teachers for students in grade 3 of Basic Education. This unit provides students with the opportunity to explore in detail pedagogical science and contemporary assessment issues, and to conduct a study focused on a specific question relevant to their understanding of science education.

  • English Education 7 (EDEN 700)

This unit of study will consolidate the learning of the previous 6 units of English Education.  Students will continue to develop their own capacity in English as well as develop strategies for teaching English in the 3rd cycle of Ensinu Báziku. Students will carry out a research project in the area of English education that will be developed during their internship.

  • Physical Education 3 (EDPE 400)

This study unit will assist students who aspire to become efficient and effective Physical Education teachers for grades 1 through 3 of Basic Education. The unit will closely follow specialised areas in the National Curriculum, including movement, capacity development, games, sports activities, and personal confidence in the ability to participate in various aspects of Physical Education.

  • Inclusive Education (EDTS 401)

This study unit will assist students who want to learn to teach everyone in the community, not just those without learning difficulties. This unit focuses on the principles of inclusion and their application in the learning environment in Timor-Leste. Its objective is to promote educator knowledge, skills, and prerequisites for developing an inclusive learning environment within the community. This unit provides practical opportunities to develop competencies in inclusive curriculum planning, assessment and reporting requirements, consultation and collaboration with families, professionals, and community members, and the development of individual educational programs and plans.

  •  Portuguese Language Education (EDLA 400)

Portuguese Language Education (EDLA400) This unit aims at the Bachelor's degree level to train specialist teachers in Portuguese language for Basic Education, with the objective of enhancing knowledge of the Portuguese language, linguistics, and literature. The unit will equip trainees who will teach in the 1st to 3rd cycles of Basic Education.

  •  History and Geography (EDET 400)

This unit serves as an opportunity for students to understand the diversity of society and culture in spatial and temporal contexts, which helps us comprehend the interconnectedness of various spatial and temporal forms. It addresses issues that lie among physical, social, human, and cultural realms to develop knowledge about places and regional differences worldwide, understanding maps and timelines, and mastering communication skills, research, and problem-solving.

  •  Fine & Applied Arts Education (EDAR 400)

This unit presents its specialty in visual and plastic arts and music. The study unit further enhances the learning of Bachelor of Education students. The strategies aid teachers in introducing competencies, especially in fostering appreciation and new practices that students learn within the school environment.

  •  Internship (EDFX 400)

This unit presents its specialty in visual and plastic arts and music. The study unit further enhances the learning of Bachelor of Education students. The strategies aid teachers in introducing competencies, especially in fostering appreciation and new practices that students learn within the school environment.

  •  MONOGRAPH – PROPOSAL (EDFD 401)

This unit provides an opportunity for students to conduct research in their specialized area. Research will occur when students undertake internships and decide whether to consult with the Director/Coordinator at the internship school or if issues arise during the internship period. This unit offers the opportunity to prepare proposals (Chapters 1-3) to demonstrate their ability to develop new ideas and insights in their specialized area.

  •  MONOGRAPH (EDFD 401)

This unit provides an opportunity for students to undertake a research project in their specialized area. Research will take place when students undergo internships and decide whether to consult with the Director/Coordinator at the internship school or if issues arise during the internship period. This unit offers an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to develop new ideas in their specialized area and also to complete a thesis that contributes to the science of teaching and learning in a specific area. To complete the unit, it is necessary to write in two parts - the proposal and the final monograph.
