Presentation of the Katilosa Foundation Speaker at ICFP Baucau.

On February 4, 2025: Students from ICFP Baucau had the opportunity to participate in a presentation by the speaker Katilosa Foundation. The presentation was entitled “Teaching and care for students with disabilities”.

The Katilosa Foundation is an organization that works in the area of inclusion for people with disabilities, with the objective of providing inclusive and better care and education for them.
In this presentation, the speaker from Katilosa gave an explanation about:
- Definition and types of disabilities: The speaker clarified the variation of disabilities (auditory, visual, motor, intellectual and autism) and their impacts on daily life.
- Inclusive pedagogical approach: Teaching strategies that can reduce difficulties for students with disabilities, including adaptive teaching methods and the use of audiovisual resources.
- Specialized Services: Information about the services offered by the Katilosa Foundation, such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and psychological support for students with disabilities.
- The importance of inclusion in the education system: The speaker reminded about the quality of inclusive education and the importance of stimulating all students to understand and respect the rights of students with disabilities.
- Challenges and opportunities: Discussion about the challenges that students with disabilities face in the education system and improving conditions for them to learn effectively.
This presentation gave a deep understanding to students about the role of teaching in promoting inclusion and can contribute to the learning of students with disabilities.
Students also had time to ask questions and share thoughts about the experience of inclusion in the Timor-Leste education context.
In conclusion, this meeting helped students to love and value the principles of inclusive education, and to prepare them to become sensitive and competent teachers in the future.
